45 minutes might be a bit of a stretch but I DO think that McCool was better than most gave her credit for. It'd be completely refreshing to see a lengthy 'divas' match, though, one that was actually good and got the crowd into it. A lot of them are extremely capable, and they all have their fanbases, so I don't think it'd be quite the ratings-killer that WWE thinks it would be. It's only a ratings killer because they present them as something you shouldn't care about. If the company got behind them, the fans would. You can get the fans to hate the best wrestler in the world or love the worst wrestler in the world, depending on how you book it. I'm not talking about heel/face, either. I'm saying wrestling's not necessarily about who's 'better,' it's about who can draw and get a crowd reaction and a lot of that has to do with booking.

And yes, Michelle is gorgeous. She turned 39 yesterday. I thought she was way younger.

I thought a singles match between Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool at Wrestlemania could have been glorious. Michelle was one of the most talented women I've ever seen in the ring. And Beth is da bomb, the ultimate Polish princess....

Too bad Michelle retired before WWE came around.

(I hear she married some guy, kinda big, lots of tattoos...?)

Instead we get Snooki and, as much as I love her as a person, and love that she's drawing a WWE salary, Vickie Guerrero doing the lamest top-rope splash in history.

Beth and Michelle one on one could have gone 45 minutes and given them each the chance to show off their strength and skill, while incidentally looking totally smoking hot. Oh well. I guess the target demo isn't quite so deep.

But yeah, WCW. Always a good punchline. Goldberg and DDP WERE insanely over yet the Hulkster thought he'd sell more videos, apparently.

I may need to do some more flashback posts, they seem to hold up well compared to 'here's what happened on Raw number 38271.' And I refuse to call them old-school. *shiver*

This Pay Per View pretty much sums up 98/99 WCW in one fell swoop, in my opinion. You have a great match for a main event, featuring WCW's only real homegrown talent during this era, with Goldberg/DDP, but which were insanely over. You've got a match that people bad been waiting years to see, with Hart/Sting. But who's on the VHS cover? Hogan and Warrior, easily the worst match on the card, and possibly the worst match that year in WCW. The undercard full of talent, but doing absolutely nothing other than just being thrown together into random matches.

Basically, some good ideas and stuff people want to see, but you have to wade through nonsense and garbage to get to it, and even as a WCW fan and die-hard during this era, that's pretty much the gist of WCW during this run.

I never thought about the PPV ending before the Title match being a ploy to get viewers on Nitro, though...but honestly, with how imporant ratings are to Easy E, you may just be onto something.

Right. I'm sure they're ok with it. I just don't think it's right ethically regardless. They shouldn't be asking these folks to make choices like that. For Matt and Edge...it might have been they either be ok with it or lose TV time. Kayfabe is definitely dead...but we can still be real without bring wrestlers real personal problems into it. Maybe that's the line.

Like, it doesn't bother me when CM Punk mentions people's real names and mentions HHH being married to Steph, for example. But, like if they were going through a divorce...don't mention that shit on TV. No matter whether they say they're ok w/ it or not...I can't imagine that not being hurtful on some level. Few people are that well-adjusted. Show some respect for the people behind the personas. I think most wrestling fans are decent people and would understand that.

And yeah, Scott Hall...it's definitely possible he was taken advantage of. Hate Bischoff.

I mean, the realism sometimes works because it gets legitimate heat. A lot of the times they have to try stuff like that to get people on edge in a time where nothing's realistic. But I really do think they should use a lot more discretion.

You have to figure that the wrestlers involved probably are OK with the idea (or may have even thought of it) but Scott Hall's kind of a different story. He may or may not have been in his right mind when the idea was pitched (or if he pitched the idea) and it's just in poor taste. I think we have to come to expect things to be done in bad taste in wrestling though. Kayfabe's gone and dead so the only way to get heat is to go ultra-realistic unfortunately.

Thanks for linking me! I hate so much when wrestling promotions use real life as storylines. Cole talking bad about King's mother when she passed IRL (I think, right?), TNA using Kurt Angle's real wife...the Lita/Edge/Matt love-triangle that happened in real life then they put it on TV...

Vickie Guerrero's entire gimmick as a man-hungry cougar...Eddie never mentioned (not specficially related, but that bothers me so much.). The widow of Eddie-fucking-Guerrero is really gonna dive head first into Edge? Really? That wasn't even believable. /tangent /rant

I want characters, I don't need their real lives to be showcased. Given what's happened to Scott Hall...the fact that WCW did this is just gross and bad ethics. Hate it.

I watched Raven vs. Chris Jericho a while back while doing some research. Amazing match!

I don't watch it, because 11 months out of the 12 month year, it's mind-numbing garbage. Something tells me that you enjoy it immensely, though.

Why talk smack about Warrior? Well, I believe I already gave my reasons. Time to turn on your thinking cap, kiddies. I know you feel sad that I insulted your childhood hero. And that's fine. There's a lot of crappy wrestling that I know is crappy wrestling yet I still love it because it seemed good to me as a kid. That's called nostalgia. When Warrior runs out in his fluorescent-vomit-colored spandex to his high-energy-but-generic entrance music, runs to the ring, and shakes the ropes, what 5 year old kid wouldn't love that? Heck, I even said that if I did grow up on Warrior, I probably would have liked him. That's CREDIT to him for winning over 5 year olds. Not a riveting accomplishment, but it's something.

If you really must know, I'm 23. From the looks of your writing, I'm going to assume you're not the sharpest in cheese section. My post sees action because of people who can't look at something objectively and get all upset that I told them the reality of their childhood schmuck-hero.

If you're trying to question my credibility, I've been a tape trader for five years and I probably have more footage sitting next to me than you have seen in your entire life. Age doesn't really hold a shred of relevance here when recordings of everything exists.

I am a bag?

so you say you dont watch the wwe but you keep up with it. why do you even bother talking smack about the warrior as some one who grew up with hogan and the warrior. i know that hogan relied on gimmick just as much as anyone. look at him now. i loved the warrior as a kid. he was great. i wonder just how old you are. and by the way your post see's action because of the ultimate warrior not you. you are a real bag!

He absolutely did carry Warrior in that match. His finishing move was weak but it was OVER in the 80s, and there's no denying that. One could argue that having the tree-trunk leg of a man that size dropped across your face could hurt a bit, so it's not completely crazy. I'm no Hogan mark, but let's be realistic. Warrior was gasping for air in that match, and there were so many rest holds for him to do so. Warrior couldn't carry Hogan's luggage, while Hogan ABSOLUTELY carried Warrior's talentless carcass throughout that entire match.
Has Hogan carried anyone else? Body slams aside, no, I don't believe so. But let's be realistic here.

Also, thanks for reading. I'm amazed at how much 'action' this post gets while all of the others are neglected and forgotten.

Thanks for commenting. Always nice to meet new (or old) fans, and it looks like this article's been seeing a bit of action, so that's good too.

I don't watch Raw or Smackdown regularly but I keep very current on news and whatnot. Personally I'm not a fan of Warrior, as you might have gathered from my article. However, I think he's worthy of the Hall of Fame. He was a draw, despite being so short-lived. I wouldn't say he paid his dues, but his gimmick didn't really allow him to. I'm not so sure it's really his fault. You aren't going to have a guy like that lose in dark matches to 'pay his dues' when you have the chance of instantly making him a star.
However, I think if Warrior is deserving, so is Bill Goldberg. His career was short, and he wasn't that great, but he was OVER. VERY popular, just like Warrior was. And that's worth something. Of course, it has everything to do with who will sell the most tickets to the ceremony, too. People would pay to see Warrior, Savage, or Bruno, because they're the last holdouts. Goldberg is still fresh enough in peoples' minds to be a draw as well.

I wouldn't say Warrior paid his dues, but it's not like he had to. If anything, he forced others to pay their dues by keeping them down. Heck, look at Triple H and the 12 second squash at WrestleMania. Triple H recovered fine, and became a huge star, but Warrior didn't pave anything for Triple H; Warrior paved the way for Warrior.

I have little respect for him as a person, given his nutty political rants and some of the things he's said. Despite that, from an objective standpoint, sure- put him in the Hall.

As far as Austin & HBK goes, Warrior doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence or room. Sunny isn't a fair comparison either; she's the token female inductee this year. And the female inductees are important in their own ways. I'm actually most looking forward to seeing Sunny's induction this year.

I'm kind of indifferent about Vickie. She's become a great heel, but in an irritating Jillian Hall obnoxious kind of way. I still respect her effort though so she's OK in my book. ....For now. :)

My name is Charles Hodges and I've been a VERY BIG fan of the WWE since before it was the WWE. I was a fan of pro wrestling when the WWE was the WWF. I actually wrestled in high school because of the WWF/WWE and to this day I STILL watch Monday night RAW and Friday night Smack Down. I would like to see the Ultimate Worrior be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame because I think that he's paid his dues and helped pave the way for todays WWE superstars. If anything the Worrior was entertaining and fun to watch and it would be a great thing for him to be in the WWE Hall of Fame this year before Wrestle Mainia XXVII (27). I think that at the time not a lot of people knew what entertainment really was compared to today. If Stone Cold Steve Austine, Shawn Micheals, Sunny to name a few can be inducted into the hall of fame then why not the Ultimate Worrior? Hasn't he earned it?, hasn't he paid enough dues and waited long enough to be in the hall of fame? And another thing I not only speak for myself but I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that the WWE does not need Vickie Guerrero anymore, on Smack Down or RAW.

You're forgetting the promotional machine that is/was World Wrestling Federation. Warrior didn't write his music, Jim Johnston did. Sure, he had charisma and a gimmick that worked, and I'm not saying he didn't. What I am saying is that a worker who relies on gimmick alone is a shallow one. Hogan had to absolutely carry Warrior through their title match. Look at all of the rest holds they did while Warrior gasped for air.

I understand his purpose, and he was good for what he was, but that wasn't much. His finishing move was about as devastating as a body slam, to be honest. I know back then there was a lot more simplicity in finishing manuevers, but it was just as hokey as Hogan's leg drop.

To each their own, I suppose. Warrior probably has a special place in your heart if you grew up watching him, and I fully understand that and can relate, as I grew up as a Goldberg fan. Goldberg's talent and shelf life was limited, but he had a purpose, just like Warrior. Thanks for reading, and for your comment!

I agree with Fusz432 with the Ultimate Warrior being one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Wrestling is fake, so everything is based on entertainment. He was a great entertainer... the crazy music... the crazy man running with face painted and streamers tied to his arms and what not... and then when he entered the ring and would go nuts shaking the ropes!!

He had a purpose... when you understand his purpose, then you can evaluate his abilities. He was short lived, but he was a rocket! Knocked the hulk down a bit, was thrown into a casket by the undertaker, and his finishing move was pure power... not some silly leg drop that feels like a massage hahaha
